DuPage Divorce Lawyer: Illinois Judges try to be Fair and Equitable and Good Lawyering is always Needed

Bears Legend Wins Divorce Court Battle After Wife Attempted to Seize Majority of Assets

Ranking the 100 best Bears players ever: No. 26, Olin Kreutz – Chicago Tribune

Another NFL legend has secured a major victory — not under stadium lights, but inside a courtroom where legacy, trust, and financial fairness were at stake.

The case centered on a former Chicago Bears superstar whose post-football life remained closely connected to the NFL through media work, public appearances, and deep fan loyalty.

After retirement, he continued to be viewed as one of the most electric figures of his era, a player whose name still carries weight across generations. But behind the scenes, his financial stability was challenged when a former partner pursued divorce proceedings seeking a majority share of the marital estate.

Court filings described a tense dispute over assets built through years of NFL earnings, endorsements, broadcasting work, and long-term financial planning. That former Bears legend was Olin Kreutz.

According to the final judgment, the court rejected efforts to claim the majority of Kreutz’s fortune and ruled in favor of a more balanced distribution. The estate considerations were valued at approximately $70 million, with the court awarding Kreutz 50 percent of jointly held assets while denying requests for lifetime alimony. Instead, the judge approved only limited transitional support, emphasizing fairness, transparency, and equitable distribution rather than emotional leverage or public reputation.

For Kreutz, the decision preserved a massive portion of the wealth he built through decades of discipline, sacrifice, and professional excellence.  Kreutz delivered a calm but firm response after the ruling.

“As a husband, I placed complete trust in our relationship and the life we built together,”* Kreutz said. *“But when it ended, attempts were made to take far more than a fair share of what I worked my entire career to achieve.” He continued: *“I believe in fairness. She deserves her portion for our shared life and family, but not everything I dedicated my life to building.”
